receiving a new computer; such a mixed blessing!
it's faster! it also involves transferring files over and other ethernet
geek port IP protocol liveliness. so, i guess, after that "tirade" it was
nice to get out (get out of the house at least - y'know that feeling in
your eyes and face after sitting in front of a screen for a few hours?)
so laura scotten, david the texas cowichan, and i went downtown to
see leslie feist and her marvelous band of french cats. first off: she
opened the show with "young girl" which i fucking love - possibly one
of my favourites off of her record "let it die". following THAT up with
"secret heart", written by fellow victorian Ron Sexsmith (well, for a short
period he was anyways..) the night was long and beautiful.
her supporting acts were perfect also, new buffalo and jason collett.
i love the idea of singular ideas and like-minded writing, fleshed out
by a great band with interesting arrangements. "one evening" rocked.
hard.
my writing is starting to go that way, incorporating elements that
i like to hear into musical ideas that are more "surrounded" in feel than
in pedantic musicianship. i still am in a piano and voice thing right now.
banjo is also really ineresting me, as is pedal steel. jason collett had a
great frumpy southern feel going on, and i respect that feel so much.
i think i'll be stealing some music from the very earth, and actually
putting together this record i've been afraid of making for so long.
and my new computer will help me.
2 play dates:
Im so very jealous. I wanted to go so bad but me being born in '88 prevented that.
I wish Victoria had better all ages venues.
only 17 more days of age-induced oppression.
or whatever. i'm glad i've gotten in (illegally or otherwise) to so many great shows along the way.
